The amount of wrapping paper that many people use and then throw away around Christmas time is mindblowing. Rolls of glittery paper are being cut up, trashcans are overflowing at the 25th of December, even though it’s so easy to find environmental friendly ideas.
It’s so easy to recycle and transform an old music sheet or an old map into a present.

I personally like to wrap my presents in kitchen towels or scarfs.
Old boxes and tin cans look amazing under the tree.

Great ideas for gift wrapping Bridget.. I think I am a bit of miser with wrapping paper.. I will unwrap gift paper very carefully whether it be birthday or Christmas paper, and recycle it, Also bottle bags and gift bags.. I put new hand painted tags on them.. 🙂 I also save Christmas cards and will cut these up the following year to make gift tags.. And the paper and cards I do not use I put into the paper recycle bins.. 🙂

Yes, I definitely think it is fun! So many great ideas.
I’ve been reusing gift boxes and bags for years and years. Last year, the boys asked me to PLEASE ‘retire’ a few of them that had been resurrected every Christmas since they were quite young. I reluctantly said good-bye to them … I was starting to think of them as a family tradition!
I’ve tried the comics, and the towels, but quite frankly, I’ll accept a gift in any wrapping 😉

I love to use scars or fabric I have laying around. As for gifts…I agree…bring them on. 🙂

I buy tins, gift bags that can be reused or this year I found some paper boxes just the right size for treat giving, which were made of recycled paper and which assumably can be reused and then recycled. My mother was way ahead of her time with this whole idea that you present, she’d hoard wrapping paper (and yeah it was a little gross sometimes), and reuse it or decorate up plain brown paper by cutting out the cute figures or designs from used wrapping paper and pasting it on the new package. We have become so disposable as a people, haven’t we? It’s really sad.
Tin cans work fine don’t they? I love what your mother did, it made me think about my Grandma, she ironed wrapping paper. Gosh, I miss her and the thought about her made me smile.
I stopped buying wrapping paper years ago because of it’s huge effect on the environment. I love these ideas, thank you for sharing. I love to recycle.

*as individuals we can make a difference* balm to my eyes! I’m so so so with you …. my son-in-law and my daughter visited a couple of weekends ago. I wrapped his birthday present in a left-over red-checked napkin from a party we threw when she was last her. It was memorable, cheap, recycled and he loved it. Spread the word spread the word – because if we dont’ we will have a gift wrapped world with nothing left in it!

This should be printed on bumper stickers, sold on T-shirts, needle pointed on pillows.
I would make them and hand them out for free if I thought that people would listen to the message and take it to heart.

I never thought about old maps, but have used cartoons. The sleeve one is brilliant. I have to look out for old cuff-links in the re-sale shop.

We’ve used newspaper for years. Or we reuse the stuff other people wrap our presents in. The only wrapping paper I have is on the fake presents that get put under our tree every year as decorations.

There’s just the two of us, and we don’t actually celebrate Christmas, but we have a tree. It looks so empty with nothing underneath, so… fake presents. 🙂
