There are so many wonderful life-altering inventions, too many to list. Fire or the wheel? Internet or Telephon? Robots or Computers? Inventions have changed mankind throughout the centuries and made our lives better – or perhaps not.
With every invention we strive forward, we try to make life easier, better, faster, and more productive and that’s all admirable. I want to believe that most inventors are decent people who have only the good in mind and that there were only a few black sheep but looking at the weapons, the killing factories for animals, the concentration camps for human beings, bombs, weapons and missiles, the electric chairs and gas chambers, I see that there has been a lot of GOODNESS missing sometimes.
Perhaps the good and the bad inventions balance each other out?
Maybe it’s us who make good inventions bad. A knife, so useful, in the wrong hands a weapon. Medicin is so helpful, but when overused it becomes a drug and causes so much harm.
The best thing about getting older is that you understand more. Like a puzzle, in the end, you finally get the bigger picture.
A goodness reader!
And so I honestly believe the most important invention is still only fiction. A dream to make humanity human, to make this world truly a better place. What do I have in mind?
A simple device that will measure the goodness in people. A reader that will detect if there is any goodness to begin with, and how much. Bypassing religion, gods, and beliefs, just reading what is in our hearts and souls deep within us. Wouldn’t that be something?
Stripped down to the core, detecting what we are truly made of.
Leaders and wanna-be-leaders could be in trouble because if you have hardly any morals and no virtues, perhaps that should be seen as an instant disqualification.
A yearly self-test for all of us to measure our own goodness, the one you can’t find shared on social media, or read in books and posts, the goodness we don’t see on TV or hear about. A gauge to see if we are still on the righteous path to be the best human beings we can be, or if there is still room for improvement?
I would love that. Take any king, any president, any minister, any preacher, and show me what they are truly made of and most importantly show them if they lack humanity and goodness.
Take each one of us.
I am a dreamer, am I?
Yes, I am and I dream big. Because if I look at this world, I see a lot of goodness, but I also see the darkness, the tears, and the suffering.
We need all the help we can get!
So to answer the question, I most important invention has not been made (yet).

Very wise perspective, Bridget. There are days I really need to dig deep to find the good, but if I’m open, I can find it. Thanks for reminding me to keep looking. 💔
We feel the same, Debra, that’s why I bring it up. I have to remind myself to see the ‘good’ or the bad will knock my socks of on a daily base. 🙂
What a great idea! I like it!
A very fine sentiment
I love your vision and that this would be getting back to basics. There must be a way….
I could definitely get behind your invention! 🙂
💚
I’d be scared of your invention, Bridget. I really might not like myself at all if I took the goodness test. Aspiring to and achieving… there can be a huge gap.
I like your idea. If we can develop an algorithm for what we like, then why not one for goodness, kindness and empathy. Politicians and leaders would all be disqualified if they registered below a certain level. Happy Tuesday Bridget. Allan
I think this is excellent idea Bridget. We then need to follow up with a bullshit detector for news and social media outlets!
What???? I thought I have a bullshit detector and it works pretty good 🙂
It does indeed but it needs to be available to all!
I really like the idea of seeing goodness around me. I have this habit of reading and watching only things that motivate me, inspire me, or make me feel good.
