All year long, people like me collect gently used bras and feminine hygiene products, shampoos, and toothbrushes and during the holiday season, in every town, village, and subdivision, there are Santa’s helpers making sure that the most essential needs are not forgotten.
When I was asked to sew facemasks, I started a friendship with a woman who works with homeless people and shelters. Before I knew what hit me, I got involved, jumped in head forward -not knowing what I got myself into.
Yesterday I had an unexpected reaction to a blog post. An older man, in his 60′ or 70’s had written a post about Bras. It’s wasn’t a funny post. He wasn’t sharing his lifelong KNOW-HOW on how to open a bra with one hand, or a story about all the bras he might have had the pleasure of meeting in his lifetime.
No, it was a dry post about how to correctly measure a bra, how to wear it and some other guidelines for women, who might be new in the ‘bra’ business and/or are on the lookout for some guidance ala Oprah.
When I tried to find homes for my donation face mask, I called numerous shelters and soup kitchens. My “Buy one/Give one” face mask campaign had been a big success. I had sewn and sold more face masks than I had hoped for, but now holding up my end of the bargain was not as simple as I had thought it would be.
