Monier Bouazar, the head of COVAX logistics in Copenhagen, sprints up the metal steps of a staircase on a March morning. The 39-year-old has a dimpled chin and a subtle sense of humor. “Three to four months” – that’s how long he had to prepare for the start of the first deliveries. He says he hasn’t slept much in the past year. “I don’t really count the number of hours. For me personally, it’s not just a job.”
Our two-week COVID-lockdown is over. We worked yesterday for the first time. My husband left the house in the morning, I watched him leave and I dragged my feet to the living room. I piddled around a bit but finally made it to my workroom. In clothes -real clothes! All our pajamas and sweatpants were spinning in the washer. We survived the coronavirus and I feel so many emotions, I don’t even know where to begin.
It’s day #7 of our self-isolation after my husband tested positive for COVID-19. “Curse words fail me,” I texted to a friend the other day, and while it’s true, we are in good spirit. We managed to put our Christmas tree up and as always, the work was shared fair and square. My husband brought the tree down, which took him about five minutes and I spent three hours stringing the lights and placing the ornaments.
SARS-CoV-2 RNA detected! There it was, something positive this year I didn’t want to hear. My husband went Sunday in the morning to get his COVID test done -part of his pre-op for Thursday’s procedure- and three hours later an incoming message informed us of the unexpected. His test came back positive.
We had discussions about Halloween in our neighborhood and decided that the kids have suffered enough.
We will give out candy, but it will be different.
My husband got up early today. I overslept a bit, opened my eyes slowly. It was cold in the bedroom, still dark outside. I sat up and turned on the news. My daily routine. I leave the TV on until I go downstairs. My daily dose of negativity, served in the morning ice-cold, to get it over with.
I never thought I would write that, but i bow with awe. Brilliant move. The President of the United Stated did not lie -as we all expected- but instead just downplayed the Covid-19 situation to keep us calm. How considerate of him. Very well played Mr. President!
The dead, the sick were so far away. Many of them in cities I once worked in or studied at, when I was young. I knew the threat was real, and so I stayed home like most of us did.
There is a psychological term that at the moment I wish it could also be used in political planning and our future vision of the post-Corona time. Adversarial growth, which can be loosely translated as growth after bad experiences.
