The veterinarian listened to her heartbeat and said, “She is gone,” and I almost lost it; We grabbed her leash and the collar and left. I didn’t even say bye to anybody; I just needed some fresh air. “She is gone” hit hard; it took my breath away. Our oldest dog, Cookie, had passed over the rainbow bridge. From one day to the next, only 10 years old, she stopped eating, and back then, we couldn’t afford thousands and thousands of dollars for all the tests, the blood work, the X-rays, and eventual surgery. As much as the vet could tell us, there was nothing wrong with her, they thought she might have cancer. We tried to ‘make her’ eat for fourteen long days, then it was time to make the appointment. Time to say ‘goodbye’.

All you have to do is decide whether you’re ready or not. If the seed is planted in our minds, if the vision is there, then I believe we are… It’s just finding the strength to go for it!

A man was exploring caves by the seashore. In one of the caves, he found a canvas bag with a bunch of hardened clay balls. It was like someone had rolled clay balls and left them out in the sun to bake.

Why don’t you give us a name? How can a group of 40 million people just here in the USA walk around with an addiction and not have a name? We are called “smoker,” but nothing bad about the name at all. No warning about what we really are, stinking smokers, some of us (and yes, I insist on it) are addicts and they deserve a better name!

We visited the Vatican when I was a child, and the thing that impressed me most was the staircase to the top of St. Peter’s Basilica. I was little, my legs were short, and those steps were high. I remember it so well, even after so many years. The building was cold, and the stairs seemed endless…until we hit the top; the view was breathtaking, even for me as a child.
