As a child I watched them cut down trees in the Alps
First by the hundreds, then by thousands
New and better ski slopes were needed
Lifts and hotels were built to attract tourists

A whimpering beside my bed woke me up. 2:30 am, way too early to get up, but it seemed the dogs wanted to go outside. This time the weather forecast had been correct, the wind was hauling and it was bright outside in the middle of the night. The first snow this year came with a vengeance and covered the biggest part of the United States under a white blanket.
Softly falls the snow,
Quiet and frozen rests the lake.
Christmas-like sparkles the forest:
Rejoice! The Christkind* will soon be here.

You feel like you’re not making any progress like you’re moving on brittle ice.
Step by step. Week after week.
