Donald Trump recently spoke about American football. No other game more fully embodies this country’s character. The sport is about capturing territory, and players need to be tough and fearless to win. A player who is afraid of being tackled by someone from the opposing team while running has already lost the game. “I don’t even watch it as much anymore,” Trump told a crowd of his supporters in Reno, Nevada. “The whole game is all screwed up.”
“My people are so smart; I have the most loyal people. I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and wouldn’t lose any voters,” that was one of Donald Trump’s statements this week.
Theodor Seuss Geisel, an editorial cartoonist, published 1942 a small cartoon in a New York newspaper with the words “You Can’t Build A Substantial V Out of Turtles.” The cartoon showed a pile of turtles and was signed by Dr. Suess, who later stated, that Yertle represented Adolf Hitler, who was trying to takeover various parts in Europe. “Yertle the Turtle,” the book was published years later, in 1958 and became a bestselling children’s book.
Donald Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States, until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on.” I read it in disbelieve, “Is this guy for real?” I though to myself.
We should not blame Trump for the sad state of our politics. For an American political system with so many structural flaws and no strategy to fix it in sight, the presidential campaign of Donald Trump brings exactly the kind of politics we Americans deserve.
A very good friend came to visit us and I took some time off from blogging. I just didn’t want to waste my time in front of the computer, when we had a full schedule and such a great time. Blogging has become a part in my life, but I don’t want it to dictate my life, because that would take the fun out of it.
The new entertainment show is called “Keeping up with the Republicans” so it seems. Did I miss a memo? Did they take the Kardashian’s off the air and the new replacement are the Republicans?
I am sitting on my desk as I do every Monday, write and answer emails, pay a few bills, because I have to and make a long to-do-list for the week ahead of me. The TV in my workroom is still on, I forgot to turn it off. Normally I would listen to music by now. I can’t take the news for too long anymore, can’t listen to it without mumbling my comments and talking to myself comes in handy these days.
