Last night was the winter solstice, also known as Yule, Yul, or Midwinter, which marks one of the most magical moments of the year: the moment when the longest night is over, and the light slowly returns.

My workroom is a mess, but I’ve completed all projects on time, actually, a couple of days earlier than planned. My customers were pleased and very appreciative. A gigantic poinsettia is now displayed on our window, and a gift basket full of gluten and dairy goodness has been regifted to a neighbor’s home, and it will make their Christmas a bit heavier.

I wish I could talk to all of the parents who worry they can’t put enough presents under the Christmas tree. I wish I could tell them about all the Christmases in my life, that are now special gems in my memory jar.

I have never written to you. The one and only time I left a Christmas letter on the window seal was back in Austria when I was only a little girl, and because of our tradition, the note had been addressed to the Christmas Angel and not you.

Every year in November I drive to the Christmas warehouse and I make sure that the trees, wreaths and Christmas decorations are ready for pickup.

A storage facility full of decorated Christmas trees, carefully wrapped in plastic, just waiting to show their artificial beauty in the malls and stores through the Holiday Season. I have the key to one of the warehouses and I am responsible for about 50 trees.

There was a time in our lives when we didn’t have too much money. To be honest, we didn’t have any and hardly made it. We were forced to start all over new, and so we moved with our dogs and everything an SUV could hold across the country. It was a move we couldn’t afford, many things were left behind.
