Of course, I can read, but according to a very nice gentleman on YouTube, I cannot read the way I should when you record an audiobook. My eyes are faster than my mouth; they are not in sync.

A few years ago, a man went on a trip, faithfully following the navigation system’s instructions. After a few curves and recalculations, the device happily announced: “You have reached your destination.” The problem? He stared at a huge expanse of water – as if the navigation system wanted to say: “Come on, dive in!”

I was an ungrateful reader at times, a moody one as well. I opened each book with the highest expectation and closed many not even halfway in. I had this rule, made up by me, to save myself from wasting time, like I would never waste time doing silly things—ever.

I look around, and I can’t help but smile; I feel proud to be one of them. I see confidence and courage, we show it in the way we walk and talk. I can’t remember seeing this when I was young, but then perhaps I didn’t have an eye for it then, didn’t know what to look for.

Sometimes I wonder if there is an exact time point when we, the older ones, feel disconnected from the younger generations. Does it happen overnight or is it a slow process? When do we lose touch with each other?

I was a great student, loved school and was a fast learner. Went to the the highest school the Gymnasium, had good grades 1-2 (A-B) no drama at all…until I decided to learn English as well. I mastered Latin and Old Greek, spoke German and Italian from an early age on. English would be just a walk in the park, such a simple language…I had been told.
