I woke up cranky yesterday; every bone in my body hurt. I quickly diagnosed myself and decided I wasn’t sick enough to stay in bed, got up and dragged myself through the day.

Years ago, when I was 18 years old, at a time when cell phones and GPS systems weren’t existing, I drove all by myself from Austria down to the South of Italy. It was just me, my little car and our old farm dog -a security measure my Grandmother had insisted on.
Doesn’t that sound like the beginning of a good joke or the beginning of a story that would compare different races and make fun of at least two of them?
Being an emperor or an empress for a day, think about all the wonderful things one could do -all the rules and regulation one could change. I would make radical changes, changes that might even anger a few.
Our first community garage sale is this weekend and please don’t ask me why, but I decided to participate, even though our original plans got shaken up when my husband was asked to fly to Florida for one week.
Finally, the warm weather has stopped and now it’s winter, the way it is supposed to be here in Ohio. Thick flakes have been falling to the ground all morning long and the driveway and walkway are covered with a blanket of snow.
I dislike the whole idea of paying it forward, because ever since that movie, many people go around and brag with what they have done. Receipts with a generous tip or a kind message get photographed and are being showed at Facebook and other social media sites. Paying it forward became a sport, a competition for many. It’s like people are under peer pressure “let me top what my neighbor just did.”
Twice a year we have community garage sales in our neighbor hood, they last from Friday until Sunday and it seems the whole city comes by to look at our junk. Many of us get rid of unwanted stuff that we have stored in the attic and in the garage and we make room, so we can drive around the next day and buy other peoples junk.
