It’s us and our expectations who make all the fuzz, time itself passes quietly, from day to night, day in and day out. Weeks and months depart, and then the old year tries to leave at midnight when we are supposed to sleep, but we don’t let it. We stay up, watch it leave, kick it in the rare, tell it to go away, and never come back. Another bad year, like so many before. We expected more, we deserve better. “Go away old year, I will forget you.”

Happy New Year! How many of these messages did you have on your phone this morning? A whole year full of joy, actually that’s a wonderful wish. Especially when it’s cheered full of emotion at midnight. Then, when we are overwhelmed and maybe a little drunk, when we might burn our hands on the sparklers and are frightened by the bang of firecrackers.
Down with a cold, but not COVID, I seem to start the New Year the same way I did last year, coughing my head off, but that’s not true. Last year in January there was peace in my mind, then in February Russia invaded Ukraine. Last year I could afford chicken, and now it’s almost a luxury item.
It was the month after Christmas and all through the house
nothing would fit me, not even a blouse.
The cookies I’d nibbled, the eggnog I’d taste,
at the holiday parties had gone to my waist.
I never heard anybody hope for a bad new year -that would be against human nature. Things always have to get better. We want to jump higher and wider, we want to run faster. We want to make more money -not less. We need more happiness, more love, a better job.
More, more, more!

The year is almost over, some of my readers will welcome the New Year already tonight. Making New Years resolutions is a tradition for many of us. By the end of a year we make a list with things that we want to change in the new year.
