A last-minute call from the township we live in. They asked me to sew banners. People had ordered them to honor their loved ones who served in the armed forces of the United States. The banners will be displayed on street lamps from Memorial Day through Veterans Day to both, celebrate, and remind the community of their dedication to our country.
What’s there to sew on a banner? I wondered.
1863 Black soldiers were allowed to serve their country
1917 Women were allowed to serve their country
2011 Gay women and men were allowed to serve their country
2017 We forbid Transsexuals to serve their country.
The Paralympics are in full swing, but nobody here in the U.S. talks about it. Since days I look at the headlines on different news websites, and there is hardly any mentioning of it.
