Lenin, Stalin, and the rest—used the term vrag naroda, an “enemy of the people,” it was an ominous epithet that encompassed a range of “wreckers” and “socially dangerous elements.” To be branded an enemy of the people was to face nearly inevitable doom; such a fate was soon followed by a knock on the door in the middle of the night, a prison cell, the Gulag, an icy ditch—a variety of dismal ends.

I love audiobooks. What a great way to get to know a book by listening to it.

The other day we were working on a project and my helper -the young women I will soon tell you about -and I listened to “A Man Called Ove.” We worked quietly, we were both captured by the story.

I fell in love with reading, when I was very young and this love intensified over the years. I have stacks of books everywhere. There are books I want to read, there a books I have to read; there is a stack of books that I call brain-food and another one that I call entertainment. One stack of books is special -it’s a rather small one- that one I call treasure reads.

I took the day off today, my husband is working, the house is clean and the dogs are sleeping. It’s me time, “Yeah…blogging time”; let’s see what other’s are up to?

“Every time I get used to something, I turn around and she changes it”, that’s one of my husbands favorites statement. “She” would be me and “he” would be the wonderful man I am married to…and, as much I hate to admit it, “he” would be right. I have rearranged our living room -again- just recently and surprised him with it. His second favorite statement about me is a little bit more private. “I wake up with a brunette and go to bed with a blonde” a humorous remark, about how often I changed my hairstyle and the color over the last 30 years. What can I say, “addicted to the bottle” might come to mind :-).
