The Old Mule in the Well
This parable is told of a farmer who owned an old mule. The mule fell into the farmer’s well. The farmer heard the mule ‘praying’ …or whatever mules do when they fall into wells. After carefully assessing the situation, the farmer sympathized with the mule, but decided that neither mule nor the well was worth the trouble of saving.
It is usual for people to make a 6 months “speech” of a sort, at least that’s what they did on the quittrain, but I am not there anymore, so who would listen to my speech? I am not a really a talented writer –in case you haven’t noticed- but I like to “tell” stories.
So let me tell you a story on my 6 months quit-anniversary and since it’s a special anniversary, how about a true story?

I looked it up a few months ago, some insurance companies declare you a ‘non-smoker’ when you quit for 6 months, others after 12 months.

Somebody sent me a very long email with lots of questions. “What is your trick”, “how did you do it” and “how does it feel to give up smoking” and more questions like that.
If you have ever watched “The Shawshank Redemption” then you watched Andy Dufresne’s escape from prison. That’s how I felt at the beginning, I felt like Tim Robins in the movie.
It touched my soul, it hit home…it is me, I am one of you…We are one!
For the lost and found…
A message of hope!
One week…OH my gosh, I haven’t smoked for 7 days…a whole week without cigarettes! I, the long-time smoker, haven’t touched a cigarette for one whole week. Believe it or not, my last pack is still in the freezer…..unopened and untouched!
I have this kitchen decoration on top of our fridge; it’s an Italian chef holding a small chalkboard. It’s too small, and I can’t really use it for anything. I wrote a big 3 on it! I haven’t smoked in 3 days…and I can honestly say I felt confused! What was happening?
90 Days smoke free…wow! I have saved $399,38 and left 1,788 cigarettes untouched. It sounds good, doesn’t it! I feel proud and bought myself something special, like a celebration gift! So much has changed in the last three months…….let’s go back and see how it started!
Unbelievable… I am an ex-smoker! Tomorrow will mark three months. I didn’t plan it, and I certainly wasn’t prepared for it. It just happened. Out of the blue, after 35 years of smoking, I decided to quit—and I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I am 50 years young, and for the first time in my adult life, I am a non-smoker! So tomorrow, I am going to celebrate a little. Maybe with cake, maybe with a glass of wine, or maybe I will buy myself some flowers.
