Update – After numerous tests and an assortment of x-rays, we have a verdict, so it seems. My husband has a broken rib. While it can occur with heavy coughing, it more likely happened at his workplace, when he stopped a free rolling, heavy cart with his chest, that somebody had left unattended.

We both have been sick for weeks -three weeks to be exact. We both had a cold that just lingered a bit longer than usual. I could hear my husband cough in his sleep and he said the same about me the next morning. We both finally took time off work, that’s something we rarely do.

B/w portrait of a man hiding his face

I am on day #3 of juicing and my husband has just spent the first 9 days as an ex-smoker in his adult life. Needless to say, things in our house can be tense right now.

Being a smoking cessation blog is fun. Especially, when they try to tell me what I should post, or what I should endorse.

Haunted House

I never understood the fuzz about Halloween, it just wasn’t for me and then things changed…

…I got married. The big kid I am married to since over 30 years is a Halloween fanatic and that’s an understatement. He loves it so much, it’s his all time favorite Holiday.

Everybody who smoked once will remember the awful moments, when we looked around and realized that we were out of cigarettes. That’s a smoker’s nightmare. We start to search in pockets and purses, we open drawers and hope to find somewhere another pack. “This can’t be…we can’t be out”.

Every time this  happened I wanted one even more. Just the plain thought about not being able to smoke drove me crazy, almost like a panic attack.

There once was a farmer who discovered that he had lost his watch in the barn. It was no ordinary watch because it had sentimental value for him.

After searching high and low among the hay for a long while; he gave up and enlisted the help of a group of children playing outside the barn.

He promised them that the person who found it would be rewarded.

You all know I was a smoker and embraced that dreadful role,
until it hit me suddenly that I had no control.
My life was run by cigarettes, so firm was my conviction,
that something had to change -I had to cast out my addiction.

Maggie and her blog sobercourage  grabbed my attention right from the start, when I decided to blog about my quit-smoking journey. Her blog is about her own struggle with alcoholism and the way she turned her life around. She is sober since 2008 and her blog is such an inspiration for so many. She is paying it forward the same way I do and I just adore her. Her writing and her story made me understand addiction a little bit more. She is helping so many…I am proud to be one of her blogging friends and followers.
