Most of us here in the US have never heard of Reem Sahwil and I want her to meet you, that’s why I am writing this post. In 2015, a 14-year-old Palestinian refugee in Germany burst into tears in front of the camera, midway through an encounter with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, as she begged Merkel to spare her family from deportation.

Roulade, with red cabbage. One of my favorite dishes as well.

I have a love-hate relationship with Wikipedia and deal with it in the same, almost insane way I deal with Amazon. I use it because it’s convenient, I trust neither. Both companies (or services) give me for a short time the illusion that they actually might care about me, the paying customer, or in Wikipedia’s case, the frugal donor, who dares to only give them the $1 they actually asked for. Come to think of it, perhaps it’s not so much a donation, but the tip I am willing to pay for a flawed service.

The results are in. Angela Merkel will go into her 4th term as German chancellor, even though her party lost almost 10% and finishes short of an absolute majority.  No big surprises here. Most of us expected the outcome, still, the election result is shocking. For the first time after World War II, a right-wing party will take a seat in the German parliament.

I could become an astronaut or a fireman; I could play soccer for a living or be a famous mountain climber, perhaps even lead a nation.
