I don’t know why I said it but I assume it has been on my mind and every year the voice inside me got louder. “I need to fix this!”

And I sat on the shore
Watching the families
The mothers greatness and deep love
Fathers fountains of knowledge and abundance of affection

An older couple is sitting on their favorite bench under the oak trees. “Do you remember how it all started back then?” the woman asks dreamily. Smiling, the old man nods and gives her a kiss.

Some things only happen on TV. The bad things, even when based on a true story, never happen in our own neighborhoods. We live in a safe cocoon. Crime and violence happen somewhere else, until one day when it sets foot in your own neighborhood.

I have to admit I always click on promotional articles but never really read them. I fast-read, get bits and pieces and move on to greener pastures. Today however I lingered.

Being a nurse or caregiver is a calling, a calling I did not receive.
Caretakers are kind and gentle, they are patient and seem to be always in a good mood. I am afraid I am rather the opposite. I am ironic and perhaps a bit sarcastic, and I don’t have a filter between brain and mouth, which is not helpful at all right now.

Years ago I decided that our refrigerator was just too cluttered, and I asked Santa if he could bring my husband a man-cave fridge. A small icebox, just for beer and water – a dream come true during football season. It was a present for both of us, I got more room in the fridge, and he got his long talked about beer-fridge.

While attending a marriage seminar on communication, Jim, and his wife listened to the instructor declare:

“I think I need to tell you that I am getting older,” he said, almost as he would ask for my permission.
“I noticed,” I looked at him and smiled.
“I just thought I needed to let you know.”
“I am glad you did and it’s fine with me. I am getting older too.”
“I haven’t noticed,” he said and it made me smile even more.
