A man found a cocoon of a butterfly.

One day a small opening in the cocoon appeared. He sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could, and it could go no further. So the man decided to help the butterfly. He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily. But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings.

Positive 2014

I had a very interesting week at an addiction recovery center. It was not just a challenging and interesting project to work there, it was although an eye-opener for me. Am I an addict or not? Is smoking an addiction or a dependency to an addictive substance? Do I classify as addict, because I smoked for so long?

I found a lot of answers this week. I am glad I I didn’t believe everything that I heard at the quit smoking support boards. I will sort this all out…in the meantime I just had to re-blog this. Eye-opening…Good job…well done!

You all know I was a smoker and embraced that dreadful role,
until it hit me suddenly that I had no control.
My life was run by cigarettes, so firm was my conviction,
that something had to change -I had to cast out my addiction.

The most smokers want to quit smoking, but they are scared and fall for false advertisement and the lies of the tobacco industry. Yes, the tobacco industry, even when we want to quit, they are still there and we behave like puppets on a string and let them guide us in the right direction; of course only right for them…not for us.

It is a little bit sad, but I don’t think children today and future generations will still know what an apron is. The principle use of Grandma’s apron was to protect her dress underneath, because she only had a few. It was also because it was easier to wash aprons than dresses and aprons used less material. But that’s not all…it was used for so many other things.

This fall will be the first one in my adult life that I will enjoy smoke-free.  That’s hard to believe, considering that I am  50 years young. Seems like I have never spend my favorite season without a cigarette in my hand and now this has changed.

I am stunned by the number of e-cigarette users who are reading and following my blog and I wonder why?  I think e-cigarettes are “hip” and “cool” for the generations behind me; an old addiction with a modern look. Somebody send me an email, telling me “smoking e-cigarettes will be healthier for him, since it cuts out so many bad by-products…and then sooner or later he wants to quit anyway”.

When I Think of a Cigarette

When I think of a cigarette,
I think of the four thousand chemicals
that would rush into my mouth and
burn their way into my once healthy lungs.
I think about that nasty taste, that nasty
ring of polluted air I would create in the
space around my body. I think of the
looks of disgust given by those close by.
I think of those who politely stepped
away from me, and those who not so
politely stepped away.
