bricks

Once upon a time, there were three bricklayers.

When asked, “What are you doing?” the first bricklayer replied:

“I’m laying bricks.”

The second bricklayer was asked the same question. He answered:

“I’m putting up a wall.”

The third bricklayer, when asked the question “What are you doing?” responded, with pride in his voice:

“I’m building a castle.”

my backpack 2

I think we all get an invisible backpack when we are born. At first we just carry it around empty, but then -just after a short while- we start to fill it up.

We fill it up with memories, experiences and feelings – all of it- the good and the bad. Over time the backpack gets heavier and weighs us downs. Then it’s time for a break, it’s time to sit down and look at our inventory.

Get rid of the BMW??? Really???

My next door neighbor to our right is an 81-year-old woman, her name is Virginia. She lives alone, got divorced in the 80’s and never re-married. Virginia is a very active lady. There is a treadmill in the middle of her TV room and she walks on it every day.

St. Hildegard of BIngen is depicted on a gilded altarpiece inside the Rochuskapelle, a pilgrim church dedicated to St. Roch in the town of Bingen am Rhein, Germany. Pope Benedict XVI signed a decree May 10 that formalized her Sept. 17 feast and added her name to the church's catalogue of saints. The German Benedictine mystic, although venerated for centuries, had never been officially canonized. (CNS photo/courtesy of KNA) (May 11, 2012) See POPE-SAINTS May 10, 2012.

Regardless if one prays or not, this prayer -written by an abbess- is a must read for all of us, who are getting older (and older).

deadlines

I semi retired, gave up my career and made my hobby my living. Our former detached garage has been kidnapped by me years ago and is now my work shop and home to 2 feral cats, who just showed up one day and decided to tolerate me, our dogs and all the noises I make. I live from deadline to deadline and I have to admit I like it…worse, I need it.

I follow some awesome blogs, written by really great people. Come to think about, I follow blogs for numerous reasons. Either I enjoy the writing and style, or the subjects chosen. Sometimes, when I get lucky, is all of the above. I follow blogs, because I feel entertained and want to read more. Not just do I want to read more, I want to get to know the person behind the blog as well. It’s like having an extra room in my house, where we all meet and talk about whatever comes to our minds. Meeting the world, without having to leave my house…how convenient is that?
