“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.” (Martin Luther King JR.)

childhood2

Once upon a time there was a girl who lived in a faraway land, where everything seemed impossible. She watched others play and laugh, while she was hiding in her room crying.

A Litany for Survival

For those of us who live at the shoreline
standing upon the constant edges of decision
crucial and alone
for those of us who cannot indulge
the passing dreams of choice
who love in doorways coming and going
in the hours between dawns
looking inward and outward
at once before and after
seeking a now that can breed
futures
like bread in our children’s mouths
so their dreams will not reflect
the death of ours;

masks

We walk together silently hidden behind our masks. Secret thoughts unspoken, our words measured, our walls built, yet in all of us are the same desires, touching us, moving us if only so we may know as others speak to our hearts, we are not alone. We are hiding who we really are; only our eyes show the truth.

Fear works like breaks on a car. There is no moving forward and no going back, we stay there frozen like a deer in the headlights, whenever we hit the fear-pedal.

je suis bruxelles 2

Another cowardly attack in Europe, this time in the center of the European Union in Brussels. Once again my heart is saddened and my European soul is crying.

“Hommage aux victimes des attentats de ce matin.”

fear 2

I went grocery shopping the other day and I noticed the ladies right after I entered the store. It was a small group of women and I watched them as they were pushing two carts, they were shopping together. They talked with each other in a language that I couldn’t understand. They were refugees from Africa. I don’t know where exactly from.

children-drawing

I liked to draw pictures when I was a child. I wasn’t any good at it, but that didn’t stop me from doing so. My drawings were always full of life and colors; they told beautiful stories of dogs, cats, cows and roosters. I drew pictures of our farm with green fields, beautiful trees and gigantic flowers. No matter what I drew, there was always a smiling sun in the corner.

vacuum cleaner

Just the plain sight of the vacuum cleaner, throws our older dogs into despair and panic mood and each and every time I try to clean our living room floor, we go through the same procedure.

They stop whatever they are doing and act like their life would be in immediate danger. No other machine in, or around the house causes so much panic, not even the lawn mower or the yard blower.

My friend Joanne wrote a must-read post about refugees and forced me to re-blog 🙂
