Alexei Navalny was a politician in a country without politics and lived as if there were no death. Now, according to authorities, he has died in the penal colony. Did the Kremlin win? Did Putin win? Not if you think like Navalny.

The field is an area in Germany with a 280 m peace sign. It is aligned in such a way that it is in the approach route of the aircraft to the airport in Bremen. The mark will remain for about 2 months, then corn will grow over it.

You’re standing with a “No war” sign as if indulging
the inevitable: this war can’t be stopped,
like bright arterial blood from an open wound
it flows till it kills,

Wordless Wednesday

I visited Russia twice. The first time when it was still the USSR and ten years later, after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the Soviet Union. From an early age on I had decided I would not like Russia or the Russian people. I didn’t need the COLD WAR or politics to tell me what to feel and what to believe. I had heard enough stories from German, Italian and Austrian soldiers when I grew up. So many had been prisoners of war in Russia during WWII, including my own father. The fact that all of them made a difference between Russia as a country, the Russian people, and their government was ignored by me on purpose. Isn’t it all the same?

I have never written about my father or the sperm donor who gave me life. That’s how I liked to call him long before I was able to make peace with my parent’s shortcomings, and the part of my childhood that makes people uncomfortable.

He was born in March 1929 and had a normal childhood. He got drafted right out of school to serve Hitler in his army when he was just 13 years old. He was sent straight to the front in Russia, like so many of them. After a few days of training, they gave him a ‘Panzerfaust’ a German anti-tank weapon, used to blow up Russian tanks and for two years he tried to destroy as many as possible.

We read about Russian interference all the time, yet I never understood how it works. How could a foreign country -any foreign country- influence the outcome in our election? I suppose it means Russia or another country manipulated our voting system, is that correct?

To understand the world, you have to UNDERSTAND the world.

After yesterdays meeting between Putin and Trump, I couldn’t help but wonder what the world is thinking. We here in the U.S. don’t hear much about the rest of the world. Most of our news outlets have shifted their focus to American politics only, interrupted only by mass shootings and global catastrophes.

I read Trump’s tweets today in the morning and it’s becoming more and more apparent, he is attacking the free press. He is attacking journalism and free speech. He is attacking our constitution.
