The Austrian Alps in the background, a Christmas song in a dialect our neighbors the Germans cannot understand, even though we talk the same language. The dialect of the mountains, soft and harsh at the same time, comforting to the ear and still, oh, so familiar to me. The song tells about Christmas 1946, during a time when the world was at war. And while you might not understand, listen to the music and read the lyrics and you will quickly understand why I love this Christmas song so much.

Almost every child knows either Santa Claus, Father Christmas, Kris Kringle, St. Nick, or Sinterklaas. A long list with different names for every country and they all look the same, or similar. Red coat, black boots, poodle cap, and a long, white beard.

He looked at the Santa’s costume, which was displayed right at the front door, and when I saw my husband’s face I knew we would not leave the estate sale without it. It was a nicely made outfit. Red fur jacket, and pants, a matching hat, a black belt which later on would hold a fake belly in place, white gloves, and even gold-colored glasses without the lenses.
A very thought-provoking post from a blogger who I just found (or did he find me?) A post that is not just well written but also gave me a whirlwind…

I feel a little like Santa’s Helper. People just forget to bring me cookies.
“I always wanted to play Santa,” my husband said, and instantly he looked like a little boy, and I couldn’t help but laugh. We had just stopped at an estate sale, and there it was in all its glory, a Santa costume with belt and beard.

There I was in my workshop, still trying to finish up everything on time, when I thought that listening to a Christmas movie might finally help me to find the Christmas spirit….somewhere.
Some homes are hungry, some homes are sad – Some homes are desperate, some homes are bad. Some homes are broken, and children there grieve. Those homes I visit, but what should I leave?”
I found this poem on my search for Christmas spirit. It got to me, so I thought I share it with all of you.
Christmas is celebrated by people around the word, whether they are Christians or not. It’s a time when family and friends come together and remember the good things they have. People, and especially children, also like Christmas, it’s a time when you give and receive presents.
