The last time I cried for strangers and felt the need to reach out, was when I was on my way back home on December 14, 2012, when I heard the news, about the shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary school. It wasn’t the first school shooting I heard of, but it was the first one that made me cry. Names like Columbine, Virginia Tech and Sandy Hook are burned into the minds of our generation.

I signed up for a yahoo email address a few years back and I started to regret that lately. Too much advertisement and what’s worse, too much uninteresting “news” of so called celebrities on the main page.
Not often, but sometimes idealistic people will step in the ring and fight against the cold, cruel world and land a knock-out, personally I wish it would happen more often.
I am sitting on my desk as I do every Monday, write and answer emails, pay a few bills, because I have to and make a long to-do-list for the week ahead of me. The TV in my workroom is still on, I forgot to turn it off. Normally I would listen to music by now. I can’t take the news for too long anymore, can’t listen to it without mumbling my comments and talking to myself comes in handy these days.
I am to the point where I almost avoid the news, try not to read too much. I have a morning ritual, read worldwide newspages that I like, but try to keep it short and sweet lately. There is only so much bad stuff I can take on a daily base.
“Every time I get used to something, I turn around and she changes it”, that’s one of my husbands favorites statement. “She” would be me and “he” would be the wonderful man I am married to…and, as much I hate to admit it, “he” would be right. I have rearranged our living room -again- just recently and surprised him with it. His second favorite statement about me is a little bit more private. “I wake up with a brunette and go to bed with a blonde” a humorous remark, about how often I changed my hairstyle and the color over the last 30 years. What can I say, “addicted to the bottle” might come to mind :-).
Extremism is at its height at the moment, to deny that is to put one’s head in the sand. There is no place for hate based upon religion, culture, race , ethnicity or sexuality and it should not be tolerated. The lesson from all this cannot be that we have to watch what we say. I’d like to see every paper/magazine in the free world reprint the same cartoon that supposedly invoked this “vengeance” to show support and strength…to show that we will not be intimidated.
