Today’s daily prompt is called “Undo” and asked: If I could un-invent something, what would it be? Well, that’s kind of a no-brainer for the Happy Quitter. I would un-invent cigarettes…the tobacco plant would be just an unwanted weed with absolutely no purpose. Yes, I think I would like this idea.

A year has passed, since I decided to give up smoking. All of you who follow my journey know, that it was a fairly easy transition for me. Smoking was no pleasure anymore toward the end. I felt short of breath when I tried to run while playing with the dogs. I felt nervous all the time, called it anxiety (smoking doesn’t relax…that’s a fairy tale) and then there was my cough and my constant throat clearing every morning and even so I didn’t admit it…I knew it came from smoking.
When I still smoked I had a rather unhealthy morning routine. There was the “morning hack” aka smoker’s cough, but of course that’s not what I had…at least not officially. I called it a “sinus problem”, because I didn’t want to admit the truth, but nevertheless, it was part of my early morning routine. Coughing and trying to breeze normally, it took some time.
I was born in the 60’s, times were different then…going to the movies was a big-to-do. There was only one movie theater close by…and that was 35 miles away. My Grandmother or other kids parents drove us to town for the day and we all were excited. We had 50 cent that we could spend, sometimes even a dollar. We went to the one and only ice cream parlor right beside the movie theater and would either have a milkshake or an ice cream sundae…we would sit there with other wanna-be-adults, debating and discussing the movie we were going to watch. They had always two movies playing and it was a hard decision to make.
I don’t have to write it, I already did. I wrote this a few months ago and wouldn’t change a thing. Just in case my blog would become a viral sensation -most unlikely- this would be the post I would new readers to see first:
If you have ever watched “The Shawshank Redemption” then you watched Andy Dufresne’s escape from prison. That’s how I felt at the beginning, I felt like Tim Robins in the movie.
Christmas is celebrated by people around the word, whether they are Christians or not. It’s a time when family and friends come together and remember the good things they have. People, and especially children, also like Christmas, it’s a time when you give and receive presents.
Do not drink or eat when you read this post, because you will have to clean your monitor -or desk 🙂
Joe Cocker, one of my all time favorite singer passed away today, he too lost his battle with lung cancer. Joe Cocker was a British rock-singer with an unforgettable raspy voice. I was very fortunate and saw him once live…years ago at an open air concert.
Today’s daily prompt asked how I did on my New Years resolution for the last 11.75 months and I had to smile a little bit. I looked down and well, the 10 pounds I wanted to lose are still attached on my hips. I got used to them and will hang on to it…for now until I change my mind.
I follow another ex-smokers blog and his post today made me aware of the fact, that I never talked about the daily N.O.P.E. pledge here on my blog. One of the most important tools there is and I didn’t mention it at all. Bummer! Well, I am not going to write about it today either, instead I will lean back and send you all to his blog…because he explains it much better than I ever could.
