I always joked that I have the loneliest job in the world, which now turns out to be a blessing. I am working on my projects like I normally do -for me, not much has changed. Perhaps the amount of quilting fabric laying around might seem like a disturbance at a place that normally works only with heavy fabrics and leathers.

Just a couple of weeks ago I felt overwhelmed by work and life in general. I wished for a few days off, dreamed of doing absolutely nothing.

As a small business owner I had my share of ups and downs, but never thought I would find myself in a situation where I would be forced to close or postpone all my classes, yet I did.

It was my first summer in many years without neighbor kids in my workshop. Bravely, I had decided teens and teenagers are the parent’s problem -not mine- and I have closed my free vacation daycare, until further notice.

Finally, it’s spring, even here in the midwest. The summer sheets are on the beds, jackets and coats have been put away until autumn. The weather went from terribly cold to hot without anything in between. The official start of summer is just four weeks away.

bricks

Once upon a time, there were three bricklayers.

When asked, “What are you doing?” the first bricklayer replied:

“I’m laying bricks.”

The second bricklayer was asked the same question. He answered:

“I’m putting up a wall.”

The third bricklayer, when asked the question “What are you doing?” responded, with pride in his voice:

“I’m building a castle.”

I love our home and I keep it clean and welcoming. Things are in order, even though my husband doesn’t seem to get the order at all times. I have a  junk drawer or two, but that’s about it. I just cleaned out all the closets and cabinets during my annual spring cleaning; there is a bag with donation stuff in the garage and a few boxes are just waiting for the upcoming community garage sale.

Dear Procrastination,

It’s not that I don’t like you, I actually do. You have been with me all my life and I got used to you, you were always around.

We did last minute homework in the bathroom before school and we pulled all-night shifts when I got older. I always loved our little Deadline game, when we circled around my project for days until we finally found the perfect “last minute,” to start on it. There is no denying, you have kept me on my toes and you have kept me in shape.
