My husband is out of town and I spend some time on the phone last night, talking to a good friend of mine, who lives a few hours away.

We had a lot of catching up to do and we talked for a very long time. “Are you still blogging?” she asked and I told her about some of my posts that I have written lately.

My husband always jokes that I am the poster child for optimism in this world. My best friend, who passed away, last year, said pretty much the same thing about me. She always joked “you would get up after an earthquake, would look around and be happy, that you won’t have to dust anymore”, and there might be some truth to it.

A good of friend of mine passed away recently. She was 95 1/2 years old and it wasn’t unexpected, but still death left a mark once again. I met her when she was in her late 80’s and fell instantly in love with the little, stubborn, old Lady, who became our neighbor.

I am happily  married to 98% of the time. I love my  husband dearly, he is my best friend and the nail to my coffin :-). However, there are days, when I want to whack him the frying pan and I assume he feels the same way. There are days, when we seem to talk two different languages. Twice a year we have community garage sales in our neighbor hood, they last from Friday until Sunday and it seems the whole city comes by to look at our junk. Many of us get rid of unwanted stuff that we have stored in the attic and in the garage and we make room, so we can drive around the next day and buy other peoples junk.

“And now I pronounce you husband and wife” and from that moment we expect to life happily ever after, because that’s what we aim for. We read it in so many fairy tales when we were young. But then wait a minute, they never get married, the story always ends with a gentle kiss and a long embrace.

I don’t know exactly why I do this, but whenever I have to say Goodbye to a beloved friend or family member, I buy a plant. Even for our four-legged family members. Sometimes for the outside, either a tree or a rosebush, often Orchids for the inside.

Life does not always give us the happy ending we hope for, over time we all have to learn to say Goodbye to family and friends who feel like family. The next guest post was written by a very special lady, her blog >>>A day in the life<<< was one of the first blogs I followed, when I stepped into the blogging world. We talk back and forth via comments and got to know each other a little bit better. I know this post wasn’t an easy one to write and I am so grateful, that she is willing to share her story and experience with all of us.

Everybody who smoked once will remember the awful moments, when we looked around and realized that we were out of cigarettes. That’s a smoker’s nightmare. We start to search in pockets and purses, we open drawers and hope to find somewhere another pack. “This can’t be…we can’t be out”.

Every time this  happened I wanted one even more. Just the plain thought about not being able to smoke drove me crazy, almost like a panic attack.
