I think about the different generations in my life and I understand them all. The young ones, in their 20’s and 30’s are exactly like I have been when I was their age. I remember it well, the 70’s and 80’s. I got advice left and right. People tried to tell me what to do and what not to do. I listened to all of it, nodded like I would agree with some that had been said, went on and did it my way.

I grew up with the words “if you are ever lost or in trouble, try to find a policeman” and it made sense to me. We had two policemen in our small village, one was an Italian Carabinieri, the other one an Austrian Gendarm. Both didn’t have too much to do, nothing dramatic ever happened, at least nothing that I can recall.
I don’t know if I am the only one, but I have to admit, that there were times when money was tight, so tight that we really had to juggle around what we had, to make ends meet. Times, when we searched our house top to bottom for change, so we could buy cigarettes and maybe a burger to share. Once or twice a check bounced, because we were just a little bit late with our deposits. The bank knew us, these were the times when bank employees actually knew you by name and we knew the employees as well.
Joanne at My life lived full, had a beautiful post yesterday. I started thinking about it and thought about the other friends I have made here in the blogging world. Wouldn’t it be great to get to know each other better. Maybe it’s just me and I am the only “nosy Rosy”.
I was mad and felt upset and so were my friends and my husband. We couldn’t believe they wanted to raise the price to 1 Dollar. Who did they think we were? Rockefeller? We worked hard for our money and it seemed just outrages and unfair.
One of my friends had the marvelous idea to take painting classes. She didn’t want to go alone and asked a few of us to join her. Yes, I could see myself wearing a straw hat, sitting in a beautiful landscape in front of my easel, our dogs laying beside me -mixing colors on a palette. What a beautiful scene! Wouldn’t it be great, if one of my masterpieces would hang in someones living room, long after I am gone?
You all know I was a smoker and embraced that dreadful role,
until it hit me suddenly that I had no control.
My life was run by cigarettes, so firm was my conviction,
that something had to change -I had to cast out my addiction.
What’s the best (or rather, worst) backhanded compliment you’ve ever received?
“Well, not too bad for a woman” whenever I hear that, I just flinch inside, shake my head in disbelieve and roll my eyes in lightning speed.
When an old man died in a nursing home the hospital staff believed that he had nothing left of any value.
Later, when the nurses were going through his meager possessions, they found this poem.
An older friend of mine is a very talented painter, we know each other since years and I admire his work -and his wisdom.
